DayCare Center - a relief to working parents

Dhaka: - Along with the cyber café growth syndrome the residents of the capital are also witnessing the spiralling number of Daycare centres in the city set up to end the woes of the working couples.

The government is currently running at least ten Daycare centres and planning to increase the number while the private organisers are extending their services at least through seven centres in different parts of the capital.

“I now work without tension as I no more bother for my one year old kid. Before I opted for the Daycare centre I had to leave my one year with my mother back home who is too old to take care of a child,” said Najma Khatun, a divorcee who works in a factory in Mohammadpur area.   Najma has admitted her kid into a day care centres and has to pay taka 30 monthly for childcare by trained persons.

The Daycare centres have been designed to cater to the need of different types of clients coming from different economic and social background, said Farzana Hassan, a day care officer Azimpur Shishu Dibajatna Kendra.

The Daycare centres charges taka 250 from middleclass couples for enrolment while the parents have to pay taka 300 on monthly basis. The children in this group are given better food than the low income groups children who pay taka 30 per month, says  Farzana Hassan who looks after the children from middle class families.

The Daycare centres admit the children who are in the age group of six month to six year. During their stay in the Daycare centres the children are given education so that they could get admission in general schools after the end of their days in the centres.

There also several institutions which are providing academic knowledge and are giving certificates on childcare but mainly the government’s social welfare department gives the training and other facilities for running the child daycare centres.

The daycare organisers are committed to provide food, recreations, education as well as good look after of the children. A number of nurses, teachers and guards work for taking care of the children in almost every centre. The children are also provided with the guidance from drawing as well as indoor games, the daycare centre authorities also supply toys for the children.  For primary treatment, the authorities ensure facilities including doctors and medicines.
