A WINTER WISH

 As chilly winds do blow,
O'er icicles on trees
The rivers stop to flow
And sunlit waters freeze

A lonesome squirrel shivers,
A raven in the snow
And leaves begin to quiver
As icy winds do blow

This is my wish today
That no man suffer pain
By winter's ruthless way,
No pauper dies again

No orphan child shall cry
No traveler shall stray,
No homeless woman die
This cold winter's day.
